Awam Utthan Samiti (AWUS) is a non governmental organization, came up in the year 1988 by the dedicated Gandhian, social workers and registered as a society in the year 1989 under the society registration act, 1860 bearing registration no. 354/89-90,Dt. 02.06.1989. The area of operation of Awam Utthan Samiti (In short AWUS) in earlier part was centralized in the eastern part of the Uttar Pradesh latter on extended for entire country. The AWUS have its head office at the Village GANA in the District Basti in Utter Pradesh (India), which is 30 k.m. away from the District Head quarter in the southern direction of the Basti, and having regional offices at Allhabad and Mumbai. The AWUS is registered under Section 80 G (5) of Income tax act 1961 bearing registration no. 58-59/423/CIT/Fzd/Tech/2007-2008 dt. 27.06.2008 and donation given to the AWUS is free from the Tax. AWUS has its account in the State Bank of India, pokharni branch (A/c No. 30455343550 ), Dist. Basti (U.P.) and Purvanchal Gramin Bank Branch at Gayghat (A/c No. 2004761). The AWUS is engaged in the field of education, rural development, water and soil conservation, rural employment, health, sanitation, mass awareness, communal harmony, culture, language traditional system of medicine, by way of establishing, educational institutions, libraries, organizing training programs, establishing centers for restoration of eco system, organizing rallies, street plays and establishing agriculture processing unit. AWUS run school and colleges for girls, and boys at the Gayghat in the District BASTI, established herbal garden for reviewing the traditional system of medicine, started vocational centers for yoga education, and other technical courses, recognized by the Ministry of Human resource Development, Government of India. AWUS is working in the case of natural calamities, flood, fire earthquake along with Government agencies since its commencement and organizing health and eye camps regularly. World level Bhojpuri conferences are being organised by AWUS after gap of two years, to focus educational cultural social and economical problems face by the region.

- Volunteers working with the AWUS are well trained, motivated and enthusiastic and able to work in any conditions.
- AWUS is doing work on revival of charkha (Spinning wheel) to revive house hold rural cotton industries and also doing work on Biofuel.

| In the Field of Education |
- Schools and inter college for girls are being run at Gayghat situated in the remote part of the district Basti, appropriately 30 k.m. away from the district place. The response of guardian and students are so enthusiastic that within short span of time the strength of students have been increased ten times. To provide quality education's to the boys AWUS run a school and college for boys and also trying to motivate students for appearing in the entrance examination for I.I.T and P.M.T.
- AWUS run a vocational training center under various trades such as welding technology, word processing, Secretariat practices, Dress making, yoga under the recognition of Government of India. It imparts industrial training among youths, students. A library is also run by the AWUS, AWUS is already applied to the N.C.T.E (National council of teacher education) for conducting teacher's training courses.

In the Field of Biotechnology |
- AWUS has initiated a program to provide training to the farmers, for replacing the fertilizers by organic manner; AWUS is also trying to convince farmers not to use too much fertilizer, insecticides and pesticides. Herbal gardens as established by the AWUS are going to be a model garden in the herbal field.

In the Field of Health |

AWUS is providing training and knowledge to the rural masses keeping their surrounding clean, and free from dirt, Sanitation and purification of water by traditional system are mainly done by the AWUS. AWUS organise eye camp every year and also going to work for launching programs to create awareness among masses regarding Medical system and facilities in regard to cancer, AIDS. etc.

| In the Field of promotion of local art, folk art, culture and hand crafts |
- AWUS organise Akhil Vishwa Bhojpuri conference after a gap of every two years at the various places of the country to propagate folk culture, art, song, handcrafts, and Bhojpuri language.

by the help of vocational training AWUS organise camp to create awareness, among rural masses, about various schemes, in the field of self-employment.
